Fortnite: a brief overview of the game
- Apr 19, 2022
Fortnite is a cooperative survival game developed by People Can Fly and Epic Games, the latter of which also published the game. It was released as an early access title for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in September 2017, and for iOS in April 2018. The game was released as a paid-for early access title for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on July 25, 2017, with a full free-to-play release expected in 2018. Fortnite is a third-person shooter game that features cross-platform play between the platforms, with the exception of the Nintendo Switch.
The game is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth, where the last humans are battling it out against zombie-like creatures known as the Husks. The player takes on the role of a commander of one of these human survivors, who must help lead the fight against the Husks. Fortnite is a base-building game, where the player must scavenge materials from the environment to build a base, which can then be used to defend against the Husks. The game also features a number of RPG elements, such as leveling up the player character and their equipment.
The game has been praised for its fun gameplay and its cross-platform play feature. However, it has also been criticized for its microtransactions, which allow players to purchase in-game currency to spend on cosmetic items.
